Bible Study Lesson: Salvation Part 2

Why is Salvation a gift?

Salvation is a gift, because the penalty is a debt that mankind cannot afford to pay. So, God set it his plan of salvation in a way that we can be reconciled back to him (2 Corinthians 5:19). This is why we cannot work for our salvation or even bargain, threaten, or pledge for our salvation. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Our sin debt was a ransom that needed to be paid in full.

Enter Jesus Christ, the son of God. The 2nd member of the triune Godhead, came to earth, born from the virgin Mary in the flesh, thus making him 100% Human, but still 100% God. His death on the cross was the ultimate sacrifice and his blood covered past, present and future sins of all mankind. (Romans 8:3, Romans 4:25, Gal 3:13, Heb 4:15, Heb 7:26)

That’s why we sing what is known as the blood songs that honors just how powerful Jesus’ sacrifice was: John 1:29 “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”

“What can wash away my sins? Nothing, but the Blood of Jesus.”

“There is power, power, wonder working power; in the Blood of the Lamb”

“Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the Blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless, are they white as snow? Are you washed in the Blood of the Lamb?”

Jesus is also synonymous as the Lamb, because in the Jewish tradition, sacrifice of Lambs played an important, because a Lamb is considered to be perfect and without blemish.

Old Testament time, (Leviticus 4:35, 5:10) God required an animal sacrifice was given as a covering of sins. It couldn’t be just an old animal; the animal had to be spotless, and of course, you had to kill the animal and all of this was done in faith of providing the sacrifice as a temporary covering of sins. (Don’t get PETA on me; this is what happened back then)

Hebrew 9:22 “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness”

I know it’s just a movie (The Ten Commandments), But I’m using it as a mental picture but this also happened in Exodus 12:11-13, where blood was applied to the doorposts of the houses, to protect the Hebrews from the angel of death.

So, just think about the fact that Jesus’ blood, his sacrifice for all mankind, has cleanse us from all unrighteousness, protecting us from a spiritual death. He became sin on our behalf that we may become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Cor 5:21, Romans 4:25, 1 John 3:5) Which is why we read in Revelation 5:12 “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.”

His death on the cross paid our sin debt in full. Case closed and Thank you Jesus.

So, what do I need to do to be saved?

Nothing, except Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe in who he is, not only as the Son of God, but as God. Because, he is God, he is our Lord and Savior. Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, that he was buried, but also his resurrection. Jesus himself said “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25)

To believe is to have Faith and Trust in what you have belief in and believe in the power of Jesus Christ. His resurrection proves that Jesus is Lord and it demonstrates God’s sovereignty over life and death.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Romans 10: 9-10, “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Romans 10:13 “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be Saved.”

Why do we need to believe in Jesus?

Because the bible says so.

John 14:6, Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh to the Father but by me.

So, when you hear someone say “oh there are multiple ways to God” No, that’s not true and its’ very much a man’s doctrine. God’s word said that Jesus is the only way to the Father. You heard it from Jesus himself.

As I stated before, Jesus took all of mankind sins upon himself, dying in our place, thus sacrificing himself, to pay our sin debt in full.  How can you not believe in Jesus and everyone that he stands for?  He didn’t have to do any of it and could have come down from the cross at any time, but he gave his life for us, willingly, so we could be reconciled back to God the Father.

Well, stay tune for part 3…………
