What is the Difference between Christianity and Religion?

A Christian is someone who is in Christ and someone who has a relationship with Christ.

Being a Christian should be something that it is to be proud of and a very highly regarded title to have, as the children of the Almighty God; because we chose to have a relationship, an intimacy with Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, the title of being a Christian has been thrown around by anyone denomination and most of them are religion based and not Christ-centered at all.

I remember taking a Religion and Philosophy class one year and in one lump sum, Christianity from the world’s point of view considers: Jehovah Witness, Catholic, Mormons, Latter Day Saints, Seventh Day Adventists, Protestant, Baptist, and even Non-Denominational churches. The thing is though, these are just religions and just because it is considered a religion, it does not make a relationship. Just like going to a church building on Sundays doesn’t make you a Christian.

Religion is man’s attempt to reach God by their own efforts.

Why do we have all of these different religions? Could be a lot of reasons, such as:

Because someone took a couple of verses or more from the bible and decided to mold the scripture to their own selfish desires.

Or

Maybe they decided to just create one from scratch using nature or just because.

Or

Maybe they didn’t agree with God’s methods and they decided to take control to find a way to get to heaven on their own.

Either way, one goal designed to reach God by their own efforts, without including God in anything.

Religion is more selfish based to please man’s desires.

Christianity is having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The world has even looped Wiccan, Satanist, the Illuminati, the New Age stuff into a religion. Either way, it’s not what God is into.

If people would just stop and actually read the bible, then they will get what God is all about and give him the props he deserves.

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty here, those who decided to give their life to Christ and ask him to be their Lord and Savior, has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; meaning they have God’s Spirit inside them, as Jesus promised in chapters 14 and 16 of John.

Before 2001, I was a teenage girl who belonged to a Baptist church. I was baptized at 7 and that was only because I followed my friend up to the front. Going to a Baptist Church did not make me a Christian. Getting baptized at age 7 did not make me a Christian. What made me a Christian is when I asked Jesus to save me.

So, what does one have to do to become a Christian?

It’s easy than the world thinks.

First of all, you got to be sincere in your belief in the Gospel of Christ and not just doing it as a free ticket to heaven. (sincere – meaning that you have a heart knowledge regarding wanting a relationship with Christ and you believe in your heart in what Christ did for mankind when he paid your sin debt in full)

2nd of all, you must recognized that you are a sinner in need of a savior and in need of God’s forgiveness.

Most of all, you must believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and why the sacrifice was made.

Believe it or not, it’s a historical fact that Jesus died on the cross. What is a Spiritual fact is that Jesus died on the cross for the sins of all of mankind and that he rose from the grave.

Jesus is our risen Savior. From Good Friday to Easter or Resurrection Sunday is to honor the sacrifice God the Father made, when he gave his only begotten son (God the Son aka Jesus) to correct the huge mistake that was made by Adam. Adam sent sin into the world via his disobedience. So, it took Jesus dying, thus his blood being shed to be the atonement, so that mankind could be reconciled back to God. What made it a sacrifice is because Jesus was without sin and he did nothing, NOTHING wrong.

It’s the Blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all unrighteousness. What can wash away our sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Romans 10:17 says that whosoever call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by Grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. Not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

You don’t need to work to get to heaven. Salvation is a gift, full and free. Seek a relationship with Christ before it’s too late. It doesn’t have to be any fancy, just say

“Dear Lord, I confess I’m a sinner in need of a Savior, I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and was buried and is now risen and I ask for your forgiveness and invite you to please come into my life and be my Lord and Savior.”

In that moment, you are:

-apart of the family of God, as his child
-his church, his bride
-have received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to now lead and guide you into all truths
-You have Christ in you, the hope of glory
-are Joint-heirs with Christ
-You have been pardon and now redeemed, brought with the precious blood of Christ.
-Your name is now written in the Lamb’s book of Life
-you now have eternal life
-you are a new creature
-you have passed from death to life
-you are now spiritually alive
-no longer apart of this world
-but most of all, you now have a relationship with God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Remember that it is not God’s will that none shall perish and Christ is going to always knock on the heart, because he wants our intimacy, he wants a relationship with us; however, it’s not going to be one sided. So, he’s a perfect gentleman and instead of busting in, he lets you make the decision. And if you didn’t make that decision for him to come into your life, don’t blame him, because the decision was yours for the taken.

Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me”

One more thing that makes Christianity exceedingly different from religion. In Christ, You cannot lose your salvation, so ignore and walk away from anyone who says otherwise, but it’s not true and it’s not scriptural and that’s man speaking.

If Christ is living in you and his promised to give us his Spirit to indwelling in us to lead and guide us, then it’s obviously that you cannot lose your salvation.

If we had to earn our salvation and to do this or that to get into God’s favor, then Christ’s death on the cross was pointless.

Religion says that you have to earn your salvation and if you messed up, then there is no grace and you have to prove yourself the right to get into the kingdom of God by things that range from speaking in tongues to prove the indwelling of the Holy Spirit or turning to the left and pray to the sun.

Yeah no.

The blood of Jesus continuing cleanses us from sin.

Paul explained that there was a war going on inside of us. According to Galatians 5:16-17, Because even though technically, you’re no longer a sinner, it does not mean that you are never going to sin again. We have 2 natures inside of us. The Spirit of God and nature that we were biologically born with spiritual aka the sinful nature. When you give your life to Christ, the struggle starts spiritually and when they say “Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust”, the struggle is over. We have the Holy Spirit inside us to lead and guide us into all truths, because our human nature cannot comprehend what God will for our life is.

Christianity says You have a sonship with God. You are his child. So, he won’t blot your name out of the Lamb’s book. When I disobey my mom growing up, my mom still loved me and I didn’t cease to be her daughter; but she was angry and we didn’t fellowship with each other, until I made things right. This is the same thing with God, you have a parental bond now and if you mess up, then you confess it before the Father and make things right.

1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he’s faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Now, do we want to do things God’s way and have a relationship with him or do we want to have a relationship with the world by having religion.

God is known as our Creator, the Author and Finisher of all Creation and Faith, the Great I am, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and End. Wonderful Counselor, God in the flesh, Abba Father, Jehovah Jireh, Jesus the Christ, the Word, the Spirit of God, Everlasting God, Almighty Father, Prince of Peace, the Living Word, the Lamb, Yahweh, etc.

These titles describe in so many ways who God is and let me tell you from experience that it has been an awesome honor to be able to just be able to call him Father. That’s exactly who he is, my Father and when I decided to make Jesus my choice all those years ago, he accepted me as a daughter and I accepted him as my Father.

So, what do you want? What status do you want to have?

Religion or a Relationship with Christ

Paul says in 2 Corinthians 6:2 “For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.”
