Bible Study Lesson – The End Times Part 3: Signs of the Second Coming Part 4

Ok, so it looks like I was not done with revealing the signs.  Of course, there are more than what I am revealing in this series, but the Lord wanted me to show a few more, so I’m listening to him.

2nd Peter 3:3-4 “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, where is the promise of his coming?  For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

Scoffers are basically mockers that love to give their 2 cents on something they know nothing about with extreme condescension.  In other words, they are know-it-alls, but know nothing at all.

I recently had a few comments in Part 3 post basically challenging the second coming of Christ. I don’t mind challenges, but when it starts to give off a condescending voice and it’s against scripture, then I’ll bid you on your way and in peace, I advised the commenter to leave in peace.

Scoffers just don’t believe that there is a second coming of Christ, they just don’t.  I’m not sure if it’s because the actual wording “second coming” is not listed in the bible scriptures or if it’s because the false prophets unscriptural prediction, or they just don’t believe what the bible says.  Not really sure and it may be a combination of all reasons listed.  But I can tell you that there are a lot of scriptures that warn about Scoffers and how God feels about them.

Jude 1:18 “They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.”

And before that, in Acts 13:41 “Look, you scoffers, be astounded and perish; for I am doing a work in your days, a work that you will not believe, even if one tells it to you.”

I don’t think it’s in their nature to believe what God has said in his word.  It’s all about them and not about God.

What to do when one encounters them?

Basically nothing.

The commentator that challenged the second coming in the last post was definitely a scoffer and how did I know that? Because, the Holy Spirit told me and then I was led to scripture to learn that they were coming. I tried calmly to give post scripture and to be open minded, just in case, the commentator was just misinformed, but I was told to stop and bid the guy on their way.  God knows me better than I know myself and to avoid your pride getting involved, just like the word of God speak for itself.

You know what’s true and you know what is not true.  Heaven and Earth will pass away, but God’s word will still and always stand.

There will be a mixture of true believers and false believers in the church

Scary but true; Odd but true, but not uncommon; I believe that Satan has his little agents infiltrate the church, like it’s a black ops mission to try to cause a division within the body of believers. Ok it may be my imagination and me watching too much NCIS.

Seriously though, Jesus gave an example via a parable in Matthew 13:24-30 when he gives the difference between the tares (weeds) and the wheat and how it is relation in the difference between the true believer and the false believer.

24 Jesus then told them this story:

The kingdom of heaven is like what happened when a farmer scattered good seed in a field.

25. But while everyone was sleeping, an enemy came and scattered weed seeds in the field and then left.

26When the plants came up and began to ripen, the farmer’s servants could see the weeds.

27The servants came and asked, “Sir, didn’t you scatter good seed in your field? Where did these weeds come from?”

28″An enemy did this,” he replied.

His servants then asked, “Do you want us to go out and pull up the weeds?”

29″No!” he answered. “You might also pull up the wheat.

30”Leave the weeds alone until harvest time. Then I’ll tell my workers to gather the weeds and tie them up and burn them. But I’ll have them store the wheat in my barn.”

God knows who truly belong to him and who does not.  Trust and believe that.  You yourself can tell by their fruits according to Matt 7:20.  Just check out the way they act, and how they reveal themselves.

True believers: They believe, trusted, pay attention, respond to God, based on their hearing and what they have read.  They have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide them into all truths.  They know it’s not about them, but about Jesus Christ.

John 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow me.”

False Followers: They have selfish intentions and they usually will make statements like “hey as long as I get in (meaning Heaven” or they say “I’m a good person” It’s all about them.  They are also quick to believe heresies, follow demonic led false teachers, have no discernment, more importantly, they reject the biblical truth and not endure sound doctrine.  They don’t have a relationship with God at all, because they don’t want to.

2 Timothy 3-4 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.”

The good news is that there is still time for the False Believers to actually do what the bible has said and to repent and come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior before it’s too late.

I would hate for anyone that thinks that they will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven by their own merits and then to hear from Jesus the words in Matt 7:23 “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

Christians will be Lukewarm in their Faith

Revelation 3:15 “I know they works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.”

Jesus actually said this himself to the church of Laodicea.

To many Christians are actually watering down the gospel of Christ or sugarcoating it to please mankind.  Or just have, “let me get this out of the way, so I can do what I want to do” type attitude. You are either going to be on fire for Christ and teach the entire truth or you’re just going to reject and ignore him outright.

Think about coffee and water.  Coffee is a hot beverage and once it cools off completely, it’s lukewarm and it’s just nasty at that point.  Then think about water.  Now I like my ice cold and I always fill my water bottle before I go to bed at night and during the day with ice.  When it sits, it becomes room temperature, which is lukewarm.  When it becomes like that, I don’t want it anymore.  I’m like yuk.

So think about how Jesus feels about Christians being lukewarm.  The letter to the church of the Laodiceans is considered to be the harshest, because they were a dead church.  They were like “whatever” kind of personality to their worship of God with no joy, love, no emotional attachment, and that was just not good.  Basically, it’s you either for God or you’re against him, but you cannot be in the middle.  It doesn’t work like that and it’s not fair to God.

Lukewarm Christians tend to show more love towards materialistic things, than God and that can easily be taken away from you.  You didn’t have it when you were born into this world and you going to leave the same way, without it.

So, think about anyone or even yourself, do you claim to know God but live as though he doesn’t exist?; or you just asked Jesus to be the Lord of your life, just to secure your one way ticket to Heaven?

Feel free to examine yourselves, but also be in the know, that this is a sign towards Christ’s return.

There will be Signs in the Heavens

Luke 21:25 “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.”

I don’t think that it’s a coinkydink (slang for coincidence.  My mom sometimes read here.)  that lately, it’s been hot one day and freezing cold the next day.  Or the sun being super bright or reports about meteor showers and comets.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:29 that “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”

Another account is from John in Revelation 6:12-17:

12 I watched as the Lamb broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood.

13 Then the stars of the sky fell to the earth like green figs falling from a tree shaken by a strong wind.

14 The sky was rolled up like a scroll, and all of the mountains and islands were moved from their places.

15 Then everyone—the kings of the earth, the rulers, the generals, the wealthy, the powerful, and every slave and free person—all hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains.

16 And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.

17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to survive?”

The signs of the heavens in the end times were also prophesied in the OT as well.

Joel 2:31 “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.”

Haggai 2:6 “For thus saith the Lord of hosts; yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land.”

Well, these are the signs and there are more, as stated in the previous End Times series post.  Unless the Lord advises me to post more, I encourage you to study the signs for yourself and research.  More importantly, study the word of God, because that’s where the signs came from.  Not man’s book, not the internet, but the living word of God.
