Random Thoughts – Sup with Hypocrites?

One thing I can’t stand is Judgmental People. It’s actually a strong pet peeve of mine. What gets me the most is when the judging is done by hypocrites.
Now, don’t get me wrong. Everyone has hypocritical tendencies to a certain degree, because we not perfect, but some people take it to the next level and it gets ugly.
I mean, everyone has an opinion and has the right to give it, but opinions are also like mouths, everyone got one.

So, why do some people act more hypocritical than others?
-Ignorance
-Stupidity
-Self-righteous

It actually all goes back to sin (see the sinful nature series), because it’s the common denominator to everything that is wrong.

The one person who was bold enough and powerful enough to call out hypocrites was Jesus Christ. Yeah, he was not quiet about them at all. John 8:7 he said “He who is without sin, cast ye the first stone.” That’s some powerful words and he was the only one that actually had the right to judge the woman in that chapter, because he was without sin.

Now, one particular case that has touched my heart in regards to hypocrites is those who judge those with addiction issues. It’s only God inside of me that gives me the compassion that I have towards those with addiction. I actually have an addictive personality, where one addiction replaces another. So, when I see someone casting judgment on someone who has issues that leads to an addiction, I actually get angry.

An example: I watch Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and believe me; sometimes I wonder why I watch those Housewives show. Ok, well if you watch the show then you know that Kim Richards is on the show and she’s a recovering alcoholic. Ever since her sister told the world about Kim’s problem, my heart has just gone out to Kim. All I see when I read the forums or blogs, even social media from the beginning until the present time is that “Kim needs to be off the show” or “She’s a druggie and she’s clearly on drugs and is irrelevant.”

Here are some detail comments from viewers of the show:

“Kim is over medicated … don’t know what’s she’s on but she’s comes off as stupid.”
“The only thing she knows how to shake is a vodka shaker.”
“Kim go sit down before ya fall down! Too much meds.”

It’s harsh either way. These people probably thinking they’re being funny, but no you’re not. It’s hateful, judgmental, and hypocritical. It’s hateful, because it’s just down right mean with strength. It’s judgmental and hypocritical, because they probably drink like a fish themselves, but they have yet to fall victim to the destruction of what drinking with abscess can do. For some, like Kim, Alcoholism is an illness and just like any other illness, it has to be treated. Don’t judge that person for having an illness like that, you may be next.
It really doesn’t matter if you have had to experience of having friends and family who go through the addiction or not, no one has the right to judge or to criticize someone.

When someone tells me to my face what they think and it’s coming off as critical; I just nod my head and say ok. Why? Because, you can’t please everyone and you will never please the person that has formed their opinion (albeit mostly hypocritical opinion) of you. It has created a process in their head that cannot be changed. You have to live with yourself and also have the live with the choices you have made. Whether it’s good or bad choices, it’s no one’s right to judge.

I always say, I’m not perfect. I struggle with my flesh, just like you struggle with yours. I’m not physically dead yet. No preacher has yet to stand over my body and said “ashes to ashes”. I have a groaning inside of me that wishes not to do anything that is bad and sinful and actually wants to be release from this body so that I can be completely free from my sinful nature. However, until then, you talk to the Lord about it and seek his opinion – which has already been given via the bible. His word is designed to be a lot of things and one of those things is guidance.

Suffice to say, I’m glad that Jesus understands what we as humans go through, because he went through it too. They mocked, criticized, judged, hated on, etc…etc….etc…. But he dealt with it in way that was pleasing to God the Father.

Being hated on, being criticized, and being judged…..Hey! It sucks, royally. Remember that Jesus said in John 15:18 “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.”

So, the next time someone tries to come at you with judgment or hypocrisy, remember what Jesus said to the Pharisees:

“He who is without sin, cast ye the first stone”
