This lesson continues and concludes the sinful nature series, where we discuss the sinful nature and indwelling of the Holy Spirit
The Spirit of God and the Sinful Nature
The body of Christ (believers and followers of Christ) has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as the promised comforter that Jesus spoke about in John 14 and 16. The Holy Spirit’s ministry is to lead and guide us into all truths. He is our teacher, our tour guide throughout the Christian life, our conscience, your proof that God now lives inside you and you are his. Did you know that there are some denominations that believe that a believer has to show that they have the evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues? Yeah, I cannot speak in tongues. I can mimic someone else, but for all I know, I’m cussing someone out in an unknown language or saying “Hey you look like a bamboo poodle.” It’s not a gift that everyone in the body is supposed to have and I’m sure that it’s not something that someone can teach on demand. It’s the Holy Spirit that teaches us and gives us those gifts. I have the gift of discerning of Spirits, does that mean that if my sister doesn’t have it that she is not saved? No, because each member of the body gift is different from the other, however, it does not determined who is saved and who is not and it does not determined who has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and who is now. If you believe through faith in Jesus Christ and in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, you confess that you are a sinner and want Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of your life and I trust him, then in that moment you receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, which is all the evidence you need that you have him in your life, because you now have a relationship and a sonship with God the Father; and no one can take that away from you. If anyone tries to tell you otherwise, you run and say thank you for your time, because there are cults out there that try their hardest to diminish the truth of Jesus and as they work for Satan, if they can get a toehold in there, pretty soon they’ll gain a foothold and they will continue to plant unwanted seeds that leads only to death.
Unbelievers do not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and they don’t have a connection to God, because they simply decided not to believe in Jesus Christ and what he did for mankind on the cross and his resurrection. Some people “think” that they are saved, simply because they go to church or they say that they have prophesized, sang in the choir, tithe, etc….they think that they are heaven bound based on the world’s point of view for what a good person should do. We can’t work to get to heaven people and we cannot earn the right to get there either. Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” There are going to be a lot of people in for a rude awakening when Jesus tells them “I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matt 7:23) Like I said, you cannot work or earn your way to Heaven. It’s about having a relationship with Christ. He is not the Ticketmaster or a scalper selling tickets in a dark alley or on ebay. If anyone tries to tell you that you need to do this or that and it’s opposite of what the bible says, then you run and say thank you for your time, because there are cults out there that try their hardest to diminish the truth of Jesus and as they work for Satan, if they can get a toehold in there, pretty soon they’ll gain a foothold and they will continue to plant unwanted seeds that leads only to death.
Being a Christian, correction – being a born again believer in Christ (anyone apparently can call themselves a Christian now and believe that they have a ticket to heaven) is not about being better than someone, being holier than thou, and becoming one for the sake of getting into heaven. No! No! and No! It’s about having a relationship with God the Father, through Jesus Christ, his only begotten son, since he is the only way to the Father (John 14:6) By being a born again believer means that you have recognized that you are a sinner who needed a savior, who believed through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who willing paid the debt for all of mankind in full thus reconciling us back to God. And upon the confession of faith, you became a new creature; becoming a born again spirit transferring from death to life, but you also received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; meaning you now have the Spirit of God living inside of you. You have a living, breathing relationship with the living God, because in Christ you became a new creature and you willing decided to follow Christ and to live for him. That my friend is what being a Christian aka a born-again believer in Christ means. You were granted the experience and the opportunity of being apart of Christ’s body, as Christ is the head of the body aka the church.
So, now do you get that you cannot lose your salvation, in spite of the fact that you still have a sinful nature? You have the indwelling of the Holy spirit as proof that you cannot lose it. Want more proof? Ok, lets see what Paul had to say:

Life Through the Spirit
8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh,[b] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering.[c] And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[d] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[e] his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[f] And by him we cry, “Abba,[g] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Present Suffering and Future Glory
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that[h] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, whohave been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
Now, do you understand it? Solid proof that once you’re in Christ, despite still having a sinful nature, you still belong to him. Doesn’t give us the license to sin and say “Hey I can do whatever I want and God will forgive me.” Yeah don’t think like that. However, if you do and you will (lets be honest about that) remember what 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The blood of Jesus continuously cleanses us, because Jesus died for past, present, and future sins of all of mankind. The only way we are freed from our flesh/sinful nature is if they say “Ashes to Ashes and dust to dust” (aka your physical death) This is why we couldn’t earn or work our way into heaven. It’s not about what you could have done; it’s about what Jesus did for us, which was offering us the free gift of salvation.
Now is the acceptable time, today is the day of salvation. Tomorrow is not promised, nor is the next second. Biblical prophecy is fulfilling itself rapidly, so that should be your first clue that procrastination is not an option, when it comes to how you spend eternity. You either going to choose Christ and live forever with him in Heaven or you chose Satan and live with him and join him in the lake of fire that is stated in Revelation 20. It is God’s will that no man perish, that’s why he made a way for us to be saved and not have to go through eternal damnation. But, if you reject Christ, that the unpardoned and unforgivable sin and then you stand before Christ at the White Throne Judgment and be judged and give an account of your life (also stated in Revelation 20) and I’m sure he’s going to ask why you decided to reject him.
Be saved today and have a relationship and choose life eternally with God in Heaven; and I hope to see all of you at home, when the time comes.
Today is the day of Salvation.
Thank you for reading and partaking in the series and I feel a sense of completion from the Holy Spirit, as I write this so this is definitely the conclusion of the series for now.
